What have P2M been up to so far …?
On Monday M and M Productions came to the school and presented Treasure Island. It was swashbuckling excitement!
In Maths we have been practising using Venn diagrams to sort things into sets and then find commonalities between them. We have also been practising adding and subtracting 10 to any number from 100!
In Literacy we have been working on our phonics and practising the ‘wh’ sound. In writing we have been working on our personal targets and uplevelling our sentences so that they are more interesting.
We are also practising for our assembly on our transport topic. It is very exciting!
This week P2M have been busy, busy, busy!
Through the week we concentrated on the ‘o-e’ sound during our phonics work. Have a look at us working at various stations consolidating our learning.
This week was Health Week and we had a fun packed week of activities! It began with the Forest Rangers and a mini beast discovery hunt. Later on in the week we got kitted out to go litter picking around the school grounds. We also revisited road safety.
In Maths, we have continued to practice working on our number bonds to 10, counting in 100’s to 1,000 and practicing our subtraction skills.
We have also worked in our cooperative groups focusing on the social skills of: helpful talking and making sure everyone contributed in our group work. This followed on from our focus in Circle TIme on the difference between being selfish and considerate.
Finally, in P.E. we were learning the basics of tennis. We looked at how to hold the tennis racquet correctly and how to let the ball bounce and then hit it back to our partner.
In Kirkhill this week all classes have been taking part in inventor week. For inventor week to be a success pupils needed to use a lot of skills including drawing, writing, reading, problem solving and construction skills as well as their science skills.
Some of the things classes have been inventing include:
Magnet mobile phones
3D car mats
Wall paper designs
Waste paper bins
Rubbish collector for the playground
The children had to work in small groups to design, plan and construct their inventions
Ella, Paige, Dylan and Daniel from P5/6 said “We loved building our invention. It was such good fun!”

Big Me Day
In Kirkhill this week the children have been taking part in Big Me day. The children donated £1 and were allowed to come to school dressed as what they want to be when they grow up. The school raised £160 for ActionAid which will go towards supporting some of the world’s poorest children. The money will help the children get a better education and hopefully a future career.
The best costumes were picked out for a picture that will be shown on the office TV.
The majority of the children came dressed up as footballers, doctors, policemen, builders, vets, gymnasts, dancers, singers and YouTubers.
Carly McIntosh in P7 said “I enjoyed dressing up as a dancer and I liked that it was for a good cause.”
It sounds like everyone had a great day for a great cause. Well done!
